Post Two questions: one bb4win and the other BBSystemBar related
Hey all once more...

1. Since I am planning to use Blackbox as my default OS shell for the rest of my life (ehm, ehm - particularly the bb4win branch), I am interested in one thing. Should be the 0.0.92_Sep8.zip package, or 0.0.92b_beta as stable as the latest "official" release, the 0.0.91_May23.zip one ??

I mean was the only thing/things that was/were changed in the bb4win's source code that/those mentioned in the changes.txt or README.txt files, or was there something else changed ?? Oh and yes, or maybe the latest "official" release is 0.0.92_Sep8.zip package, I am really not sure ??

2. What's with that newest version of BBSystemBar plugin, that I've downloaded from plugins site - and the file is named bbsystembar12.zip... I mean whenever I've tried to use it with bb4win, it has crashed my system. I suspect that enabling it triggered OS to some endless loop, or it caused system to consume more and more memory (not sure which one - just speculating), i.e., I am saying that because once I got "Not enough Virtual Memory" error-message.

Though I am not sure if this Virtual Memory related error-message was 100% caused by the mentioned plugin, it is 100% sure that it crashes my system. It goes somehow like this - after un-commenting the plugin line in the plugins.rc file and hitting the "Reconfig" command, first Windows becomes very very sluggish, then there is some unusual hard-disk activity, and finally the OS freezes. And note - I am so sure because that had happened just before reinstalling my previous non-SP Windows installation (it was two days ago - and that actually made me to decide to re-install at all), and today with totally fresh Windows Pro SP2 setup.

Is this common, is this latest bbsystembar12 version of plugin designed to use with the bb4win branch at all ??

Thanks for any reply, satyr

Hi satyr.

I'm using BB4Win v0.0.92b + BBSystembar with no problems on a variety of machines. [Even my work box :-" ] So I guess it's another plugin causing that.

In my spare time I'm rewriting BB4Win v0.0.82 [just before the main branch was crippled], adding the fixes and features all the way up to v0.0.92b, and then I hope to add some more bugfixes and release it as v0.1.0. So that would be the stable release. :) Don't get excited just yet - I'm on my own here and it's going to take ages, and I'm not actually on the main dev team. You never know though...

[Tres`ni: Btw, you might want to take a look at the emoticon source - you'll notice in the emoticon window you can't get the whistle emoticon by clicking it. If you change the code javascript:emoticon(':-"') to javascript:emoticon(':-\"'), I think that might work better.]

Wow, Fatman, that is great news to hear! I'd very much love to see bb4win re-emerge as a great, dominant branch once again. I assume you'd be adding some stuff from the other branches as well notable the latest style standard? Anyways, great to hear somebody's working on the bb4win code again :)

OK, I think I should elaborate it a bit...

The BBSystemBar plugin I am using at the moment is BBSystemBar 1.3b14 (it is a 31 KB in lenght file BBSystemBar.dll), as it says if one clicks on the "About", and it was bundled to the one of latest official packages. The file properties says that the file was modified on 13. februar 2004, 2:19:52

On the other hand, the one that is causing my troubles is also a BBSystemBar.dll file, but this one is only 23 KB in lenght, and compare to the one mentioned above that works OK, the package also contain BBSystemBar.html file. The file properties says that the file was modified on 18. march 2003, 16:53:50, and btw., I downloaded it from here: http://xoblite.net/plugins.html, particularly this link: http://xoblite.net/files/bbsystembar12.zip

P.S., Fatman - it can't be any other plugin's fault, simply because I am a minimalistic person, and so I use only one plugin - and it is the BBSystemBar.

Thanks for the replies, satyr

I think, well I am almost completely sure - that it comes with all the latest thee versions of bb4win (or at least two), particularly under the Blackbox\Styles\ directory, oh, except for the "update" packages, where there is only bb4win's Blackbox.exe core file contained in the .zip archive...

greetings, shirker

FWIW, I seem to be running BBSystemBar 1.3b15. I can't remember where I downloaded it from though.

Heh. Dude, you're even more minimalist than me. I use BBSystemBar and BBPager [and my developing plugins, of course ;) ].

Malnilion: sounds like a plan. Of course I need to chat with qwilk and grischka to see what they're up to, see if I can stea^H^H^H^H borrow some ideas.

As I've said before, be warned, progress is and will remain slower than a tortoise sprinting across a sandpit - unless I can somehow convince my boss that he doesn't really need that programming project completed just yet... :D

Oh, and BBSystemBar v1.3b14 here.
