...How often this happens (if at all) can also vary significantly with what flavour of Blackbox you are using. (A complete list of the latest versions is here.) At least that is what my experience has been. Also, if you are running bbLeanSkin, make sure that the list in exclusions.rc is up to date. Try expanding the list as follows:
Code:
# Invisible windows:
# (Listed here to save resources, and possibly trouble)

BROWSEUI.DLL:OTClass
SYSTRAY.EXE:SystemTray_Main
WEBCHECK.DLL:MS_WebcheckMonitor
STMGR.EXE:STATEMGRPROC
WIASERVC.DLL:STIExe_Window_Class
TAPISRV.EXE:UmdmSP Class
TAPISRV.EXE:WAN_Class
RNAAPP.EXE:RNAENGCLASS

QUARTZ.DLL:FilterGraphWindow
WMPUI.DLL:TimerWindowClass
WMPLAYER.EXE:atlcommon_timer*

# vista invisible windows ??
csrss.exe
taskeng.exe
dwm.exe
winlogon.exe
sdclt.exe

# programs which come with their own skin:
trillian.exe
toolkit.dll
winamp.exe
Wmp.dll
iTunes.DLL
iTunesRegistry.DLL
iTunesLocalized.DLL

# programs with trouble
nero.exe
squidcam.exe

# vista issues
shell32.dll
devenv.exe
taskmgr.exe
The version of devev.exe is the one that ships with Visual Studio 2005.

Mmmm... first, Blackbox doesn't have a 'Start Menu' so, you've confused me as well as everyone else as to what you mean. If you mean the root menu, I'm having a hard time visualizing why anyone would want their menu to stretch across the entire sceen

At any rate, if you look in your menu and go to; Blackbox --> Configuration --> Menus --> Maximal Width, you can adjust the width of your menus to a degree. Tho, I don't think your going to get them accross the whole screen.

And what exactly do you mean by 'drop down menu'?

You have to be a little more explicit when asking these kinds of questions, not everyone will have their systembar\toolbar at the same screen position or, given the flexibility of Blackbox shells, the exact same configuration.

Being vague in your questions will bring you silence at best or a semi-sarcastic reply from me at worst - tho that is with your best interest in mind. (hey, at least you don't have to deal with me in RL - pity those that do  ).

As to your intermittent crashes, I personally don't experience a lot of crashes my self, Blackbox is pretty rock solid for me and has been for the last 5-6 years. On the occasion that it has started crashing, I have found that the problem usually has to do with:

  • an unstable plugin
  • a terminate, stay resident program (TSR) - one that runs on startup
  • a miss behaving tray app
  • using incompatible\mismatched core plugins with your specific shell buid (bbLeanBar, bbKeys)
  • a badly coded hardware driver or (more likely) helper app
  • your windows version

If this is a real problem for you, it would be best to start a new thread that includes specific information in those areas.

I think all of Pikton's styles have too many plugins for me. I just want something basic. maybe some icons of my drives and are easy to get to on the desktop.

Styles don't have any plugins. None.

Very few of Pitkon's style archives contain additional files, such as bbInterface, which can be used to create custom menus. And one or two even come with BB, so they are little self-contained systems.
But you don't have to use any of those. Just extract wallpaper and style file, and that's it.

As for drive icons on the desktop, BB does not support that by itself since it doesn't know a desktop. This is where you'll need plugins - bbInterface for the really fancy, elaborate setups, or Iconbox for more simplistic, yet easy to create, configurations. There's also a plugin called bbIcon, which tries to put icons on the desktop that can be used to start programs, but I found it to be very unstable so I'm not using it, and I would recommend against using it.
I think noccy's developing a desktop for BB, but it hasn't been officially released yet, so if that's something you'd like to have, you'll have to wait some more.

Post Re: BBKeys.rc Coding and BBLean Start Menu
When you hit the Win key, the same menu pops up that you get when you right-click on the screen (root menu) (minus the icons in my case).
To edit the content of that menu, you therefore need to edit the file menu.rc.
The appearance of the menu is controlled by the currently active style, however, so if you don't like your setup, maybe a new style will be more to your liking. If none of the many styles that are available for download give you the looks you want, then you'll have to do some editing on your own.

Below is a style file. There's a section called "menu" that you'll have to edit. I don't have a link to it handy, but there's a program called BBStyleMaker that might be helpful.

Code:
! Stylefile for blackbox

Post Re: BBKeys
Hi all

DisplayFusion has a few shortcut nifty keys that can be used, for eg. Ctrl+Win+X will move the current window from the current monitor onto the next monitor at same size. Other are like center window, center window at 100%, 75%.

Can such feats be achieved in BBKeys + BBLean?

Please advise.

tmk not currently. It could probably be done with a mix of BBKeys & Tcl-bb, but it's not part of the core of any branch.

Post Re: BBKeys
You could give gridmove a try.
I use it and it really suits me.
You cannot move windows unresized from one monitor to another but you can move windows around using hotkeys (win + 1-0) or by mouse.
Have a look.
Note that you'll probably need to make your own grid. But that shouldn't be too much trouble.

No, no I am aware of that, to maximize and restore in the same screen. But this one actually moves the window out from monitor 1 to monitor 2 and vice versa.

I'm pretty green at this, but I'm trying to create a rocker hotkey (right click then left click) to invoke and scroll through the AltTab menu, but I can't figure out the right syntax to use, or if it's possible with bbkeys. Can anyone help?
