Post Help for Newbies-from dummies to beginner and advance users
Hi, I'm a newbie and i thought it would a good idea to have a thread like this where the beginner can ask any question without having to roam around the forum to find a particular answer to a question. Most beginners face the same issues, whether you're a dummy on advance user.

As a beginner I have one question: Can bb crash my machine?? I'm new and I'm trying every thing, and the fact that we are dealing mostly with codes here i was wondering if i could crash my machine if i wrongly input a command somewhere...

As a program on Windows, YES it can. Some of the plugins don't work well with certain versions of BB. Heck the beta I got recently crashed. But usually just BB crashes. It's real good about not FUBARing a system. That's why I have had it on my system for a few years now.

It is very stable. More so than windows' explorer. I can't remember the last time bb has crashed, though I don't run many plugins. And when it does, it's a minor thing that just requires a restart of the bb shell.

Post Re: Help for Newbies-from dummies to beginner and advance users
i've shifted from bb4win_mod for vista (unkamunka i think) to Xoblite and now am using BBlean. Really nice, though too accomplish for my twisted mind. I was asking myself this question : Why did BlackBox memory usage jumped from 1800kb (with Xoblite) to 4600kb (with BBlean)? When Vista load, blackbox shows 3500 kb with Xoblite and +6500 kb with bblean.

Exception made to the bbleanbar that shows most of my tray icons, am using less plugins. I've unloaded bbiconbox and bbanalog, now i have only 6 plugins loaded. On Xoblite i had atleast 10 plugins and the two exe :bbstylemaker and bsetroot...

May be am getting something wrong and i'd like to understand. I know that an experimented user will find my question very stupid or atleast will have a patronizing smile but am very new to this...and i'm a bit a scrooge on memory (only got 1gig)

Thanks
sorry for poor English it's not my native tongue

You can try bbmemlimiter, which periodically pushes bb's ram to the page file. It can keep bb's ram usage down to around 1MB. Still though, 4.6MB for bbLean isn't bad.

Thanks cthu1hu!!!!!
Yeah I know 4.6 meg is not a great deal for bblean and even for most soft around but I am a real Scrooge when it comes to ram, most people who know me always wonder how i can keep mem at 47% on vista. My answer is quite simple and recurrent: "cut all the craps and nice mf effects in Vista!" and since am using the blackbox branches i bitch everybody about how low it is on my ram...

Well anyway thanks

P.S. err... can i ask you a personnal question? your nick/pseudonym, cthu1hu, does it has it has anything to do with H.P. Lovecraft personnae?
