i know this isnt a bb problem.. and no i am not Nightbreed i just have his comp now since his accident... but im having malfunctions and figured one of u might want a challenge with helping me figure out whats wrong with this comp... ive tryed new hd..new cd/dvd roms and trying to reformat and just about anything else i can think of... but has anyone ever had a problem with the following..... when i put in a disc it wont read it.. just reboots the comp.???

What accident?


Had a virus once that rebooted my comp every time I moved my mouse.

With that little to go on though, it sounds like it could be a hardware or software issue.

What are the specs of your computer?
What OS are you running?
Does this happen with every disk - data and audio?
Does switching off autoplay help?
How/when did this issue start to manifest itself? Did you change any hardware recently?
Can you boot from the Windoze CD, or any other CD for that matter (e.g. a Linux Live CD)?

ok 1 question at a time... the accident im refering to in he had a brain anurysm burst... and he never fully recovered from...

happens with any disc
cant boot from cd
as soon as u put any disc in.. it reboots

only thing i havent done other than new power suppy
ive basically gutted his puter to try and solve the problems

sorry ya'll just no telling with how he had this comp built... and without him being able to tell me .. just figured you all might know something i havent tryed..lol. im not the comp geek he was.. so im trying here.. lol
this comp has so much hardware on so many programs im trying to decifer what any of it is... slowly...lol
but i do still use the bb programs.. i am like him in the aspect that i am contatly changin my screen... lol

Yes, please fill us in on our friend's condition. This is the first I've heard of this.

A PM sent by me to Nightbreed ~15 months ago was eventually answered in Nov 2007 by someone else using his account.

IIRC the reply said that Nightbreed had been totally out of action due to the aneurysm. He had (in Nov. 2007) only just recovered enough to be able to tell folks how to handle the loose threads from his active life before he was struck down. The reply said that he was every keen that everything at bb4win continue as it had before.

The PM I received was forwarded to all the LitB Admins. Perhaps mistakenly, I took the view that any announcement should be made by the Admins. (I did not become a Mod until recently.)

You may remember that Nightbreed himself had moved on to working on the Cairo shell & other projects. His last Forum posts were all dated 17 Aug 2007. His previous posting day was 21 Apr 2007 (back then he was posting daily).

When you say you can't boot from CD, did you set the BIOS to try to boot from CD first? Depending on the computer, you may have to press F2, F8, F10, F12... to get into it; it should say which key to press when you switch the box on.
Also, did the computer ever work with CDs, or has it been acting up ever since you got it?

As for his condition at present time i do not know.. i took care of him for months while he was in the hospital(2months), at rehad ( two months) and after he came home... his family eventually ran me off... but when i left there he had physical limitations and memory wasnt there .. so i doubt if that will improve enough for him to continue his work. i know he use to love all this stuff very much .i tryed to inform anyone who sent messages of this when i could.. its still hard sometimes.


now as for this puter.. (being that it is his creation is why i am fighting so hard to restore it).. yes ive checked the bios and no still wont do anything. thanks for your help

Ok, so it seems to be a hardware issue if it won't even boot from CD.
If I understand you correctly you already tried out a different CD drive, and that didn't improve things, right?
Can you check in Device Manager if there are any IRQ conflicts or any other errors?

the cd and dvd roms both had errors... so i took them out and replaced them... still errored out... ive tryed to install new drivers for everything as well.. yet claims there is no drivers. i have a new power source on the way to try .. fingers crossed.. i was told it wouldnt be a mother board problem.. without being able to have someone look at it and those who have dont understand.. guess this is why i am lost..lol i learned a lot over the years and a lot from nightbreed.. but i guess not enough
