Re: What do you consider a good desktop?
I like to keep mine at the bare minimum, as few plugins as possible.

Re: What do you consider a good desktop?
I have just found out about the *box recently (read: a week ago) , so I'm in the process of arranging my desktop/testing plugins. So far my desktop consists of my bar (SystembarEx) , bbpager (set to autohide) and a frontend for foobar2k I designed using bbinterface (also set to autohide). I like to have much space, but I also want to have quick access to some important features, so autohide is the logical option.

Re: What do you consider a good desktop?
I can't stand autohide, I consider that one of the most useless and annoying features ever because invariably it'll show autohidden things when I don't want to see them, which then get in the way... awful. So for me, I prefer all important things to be visible all the time. Which is why I have a taskbar at the top, and system meter bar - Trash, bbSystraffic, bbNettraffic, bbSky, bbPager - at the bottom of the screen. I use some transparency with those, but not for any windows... I don't like having the background or underlying windows shine through. For launching applications, I use the right-click menu pretty much exclusively.

Clock/bar (icons only)/tray in upper left hand corner, and a background. That's all I need.

first of all, i hate desktop icons, so none of those. not really any plugins, except for bbinterface, like my oh-so loved gnome-style taskbar, which HAS TO be at the top edge of my screen, hidden tray (it's soo ugly), wallpaper that's not too colorful, maybe a dock and some sysmeters, and a minimalistic foobar, since my music's playing 24/7

feanne wrote: Minimal + pretty I pretty much agree. I don't like stuff all over my desktop unless it provides some sort of functionality that I want but at the same time I like things to be pretty. You see this in most of my screenshots.

Re: What do you consider a good desktop?
minimal everything on my desktop like my desk...whitout overcrowding it. i mean that's why there are drawers in a desk and most important of all, one that does not eat my memory like a fat tiger on diet. the rest is just a matter of taste.
