Post Dream Render
Hi
i dunno if this goes here...
is there any way to make this work in bblean?
I know it probably wont, since the bblean desktop its not the same as explorer, but i thought it was worth to ask.
It is a animated desktop software. it takes little resources for the kind of job it does and the effects are incredible, so maybe someone would make it happen ;)

thnx

Don't see why it shouldn't work. since it's an exe that can be loaded after loading Blackbox.

yes sir, but since BB takes up the desktop area, it gives video driver error from DR and wont start up, while in explorer works just fine. but i noticed that after starting other apps, DR also shows a message, saying that the app is "requesting 3d resources". i tried starting up explorer as shell, then loading blackbox on top, then loading DR, but it turns out BB overwrites the desktop, no error this time. i know this is more likely a DR issue, but i thought i could ask anyway.

thanx

Did you try disabling background and "Smart wallpaper" in bblean's config? Winamp's desktop overlay mode works with blackbox.

Nice, but minimum sys ram req is 512.
I used to have the Winamp Vis (a.v.s, the only thing I miss from winamp) to do some like it, it doesn´t look the same but works on pentiums 2 with less than 96 mb ram, and, well, plays music. But it isn' t so easy to configure.
Oh, well, I forgot to submit the reply (about four hours) and someone said what i was saying.
Well... cthu1hu, do you know the KMPlayer?
With blackbox i've never been able to use the desktop mode (Shft+Entr) but in explorer I remember I could.
Oh... and the bsplayer also have the same mode (its just that the kmp have plugin support for the avs)

Not familiar with KMPlayer. VLC also has a desktop overlay mode.

I don't think any of the coders are developing for Vista though. Your SOOL with that.

For that to be true, it would seem that the only coder in your world is noccy (& his helpers).

Both qwilk & myself have shown variously that we are developing with Vista in mind. (nocd5 remains active, but posts mostly in Japanese. fatman's activities are unclear.)

There are two issues:
  • making sure that new releases remain functional on Vista boxes. (For example, qwilk did a minor re-release of xoblite bb3 RC1 to cover a basic menu problem that arose on Vista.)
  • dealing with a core restructure to cope with the "ring-fencing" of shell programs like bb4win.

Also, what is more important to both you as a stylist & to the community at large: enabling Dream Render or enabling all these "new gradients" in bsetroot?

grischka turned bsetroot (back) into a closed source project. The only available bsetroot source code is strictly limited to rendering bitmaps - which means that a fair amount of "wheel reinventing" is going to be required.

stylists might prefer the minimalistic approach, givin priority to gradients. However, since there are also some mods of BB featuring heavier graphics, some of us might prefer the animated desktop thing. though i wouldnt be suggesting them if they had too much resources usage.

Unfortunately, bbClean leads the pack in both heavier graphics & Vista non-compliance. AFAICS noccy's latest plugin bbDesktop doesn't function at all in Vista. (If someone has figured out a way, then the community would probably appreciate a "how to".) ;)

well sir, since vista has its own dream-scene-resource-hog-thing this could perfectly be limited to xp ;) i bet not many of BB users have vista ... or they can always *upgrade* to XP

Which, since it's part of the explorer shell, DEFINITELY doesn't work with bb.

It's also only available to people with Vista Ultimate, which isn't most people.

Just an FYI, but as far as I could ever tell all grischka did was staticly link the CxImage library to load other images and apply transformations, not as much wheel reinventing as most people think ;)
