Decided I needed a decent RSS-reader, so I went on and wrote one. What you see here is just about 4 hours of work, so it's still pretty primitive.

It supports (at this time) RSS 2.0 feeds only. RSS 0.9x and 1.0 feeds as well as Atom 0.3 and 1.0 feeds will fail (hopefully by telling you that it could not be loaded, at least that's how it's supposed to be). The top buttons toggle panels or show menus.

Adding feeds works at this point. Removing entries, selecting view options, and manual update of feeds is not yet implemented. To remove feeds, create custom feeds, or view specific feeds you are gonna have to wait ;)

The bottom preview panel can be hidden by clicking the little arrow. The bar where the item caption is displayed will take you to the link contained in the item. Enclosures (attachments) and viewing modes doesn't work yet since i took a shortcut and just glued XMLHTTP in there rather than my own home made HTTP module.

Oh. It requires the Visual Basic 6 runtime files. Those are not included in the installer. MSXML6 and the SQLite runtimes are however.

This one is going to deserve its own website.

Maybe a dropdown with all your feeds listed in it like foobar's dropdown playlist coupled with its single column playlist view.

Some foobar/itunes-like alternate row colorings would be secksy 8)

Thanks! Good idea! :) I will grab a domain as soon as I can afford one.

The "dropdown playlist" thingie is supposed to be the main button in the top bar, titled "All feeds". For management you'll have the button next to it that shows you all your feeds and folders/meta feeds for management and organisation.

Alternate row coloring is a piece of cake, and so is sorting column highlite. Already have the code for that in my library :)

Oh, and btw, nice styles in your sig :D

Cheers,
Chris

Colors can't be customized yet, but the alternate row coloring is working :) The date parsing might be a little weird, since all feeds from CNN appears to be from the 30th of November at 02:00.

Tray support has also been implemented (minimize to tray/always use tray) as well as the context menu you can see. I'm trying to implement basic audio streaming of f.ex. podcasts so that you instead of downloading the enclosures/attachments can stream them directly to RSx. It will also be possible to stream them in external applications, such as Media Player Classic or MPlayer, and to feed for example .torrent enclosures directly to your torrent client.

More to come :)

Now you can :D Stay tuned for yet another alpha. I want to implement at least Atom 1.0 and pure HTTP downloading before releasing it :)

Post Re: RSx - a RSS reader with a little extra juice
Excuse me, I downloaded the newsest version and installed it without any error message, But I just can't add any rss feed to the RSx reader. I did install the "vbrun60" and reboot my computer, but it still didn't work.

Do I lost any thing?

Thanks for you reply. :D
