Post what do i need to know before adding styles to my xoblite
Hi all

Ok im starting get real comfortable with xoblite and how it works... so I have decided to go a step further and apply some styles or themes...

what is the difference of a style and a theme the two are seperated in my xoblite features when i right click?

allso i have download a zip file containing every styles to 2008 which unpacked gives me allot of folders with files in em. I guess that the folders are the names of the cool people craeting the styles and the files inside is what i need to applie the style. But is there any special syntax as to how to implement the styles? Can keep the auther folder structor and just copy the styles i got to the xoblite styles folder?

From the looks of it im not sure if its actually styles i want... and not more themes im looking for. Its a bit hard to tell when i don't know how the xoblite creators define styles and themes.

and where do i get themes for this awesome shell if i wanna try other themes then the basic xoblite that comes "with the box"?

Thanks!

I don't use xoblite, so I can't tell you anything about themes... but styles should be the same as in the other bb4win versions.

You need to do 2, or 3, depending on how you count, things:

- copy the style configuration file to the style directory (files may end in txt, sty, style, and I've also seen some without any extensions) and the wallpaper to your wallpaper directory (I have a directory "backgrounds" under my "Blackbox" directory, but any directory will do).
- edit the style files to point to your wallpaper directory

That's essentially it.
Any files other than the style file and the wallpaper isn't really necessary for the style as such. If you want to keep the readmes, I suggest collecting them in a separate directory.

For other styles, check out Pitkon's page(s) on deviantart or you can also take a look at the screenshots thread here in the forums, some of the styles there are downloadable. Also, a few people have links to their own style repositories in their signatures, so keep your eyes open.

hi Niniel

in my xoblite folder i too have backgrounds but the styles that i have downloaded doesn't have any backgrounds.. maybe thats surpose to be, not all styles comes with backgrounds maybe :)

When i go to my styles folder i have lots of files there (different styles i think). should i delete all the other files and put in those from the style i just found or? and how wold that affect xoblite? i mean deleting styles that is being used by a running os can't be good?

I think im misunderstanding something here...

I have tried to copy the files from the new style to my style folder so it lies with the files that comes with xoblite, but that didn't do a thing... I can't right click and choose a style, but i can choose a theme...

So what is it im not getting here?

Maybe the stuff that is said about installing bsetroot in this thread can help you with the backgrounds issue.

Ok, Offerlam, I did the right thing and downloaded & ran xoblite... Now at last I know what you are talking about. :)
Themes seem to be pre-made configurations - they can have their own styles, their own plugins, their own layouts.
Regarding styles, the style menu actually provides a hint about what you can do - the styles menu says something like "use the mid-click" styles menu. I think shift-right clicking simulates that, so that's what I did. At first I wasn't able to get the styles menu because shift-right clicking brings up the Themes menu, but after I right-clicked on the desktop, then went xoblite/configuration and there clicked on Mid-click styles menu, shift-right clicking brings up the list of styles.
This may not be the best way to go about it, but it worked for me.
Good luck.
