 Stupid Spammers
You've all probably seen it, apparently we are important enough to get spamed. Even had some spam user accounts created. While it's annoying, right now it's not so much of a problem as to make me take any new drastic measures [such as registered posters only or account activation.] I will be looking to see if I can somehow add CATCHPAs to Guest posts, that will probably help..
What kills me is that iirc, all links out are ref="nofollow", so most search engines will not index something you link from here. Apparently spammers don't know how to check that first to make sure their spam is actually worth the time to post.. *shrug*
Unfortantely the spam is not coming from a single address space, so blocking IPs would be a nasty uphill battle, and I'd rather not at the moment. If you see spam, please just PM me or any other Moderator [check the User group if you aren't sure who is a moderator, or look for someone Green or Orange in the online users] and we'll take care of it
Back to school for me, got to waste my 15 minutes cleaning spam.. Oh well Loves to the peoples!

I have an idea.. why not create a dummy thread and pin it.. they seem to spam the first thread posted.. so if one is posted at the top, they'd spam that... once it gets filled enough, delete the thread and make another one.. lol...
Kinda like a roach motel... hahaha

how many people posts as guests though? i can't really recall a single time, most people just register. i think you should just disable guest posting, but please to god not guest viewing, i hate it when sites make you register just to view posts... so silly, all it does is slow someone down who's looking for an answer, if they ARE going to post though, most people don't mind taking the time to make an account, most people who ask questions here register an account. i think. maybe i'm just mental . also if you do, add a phpbb extension that requires you to input numbers from an image to register, that will stop spam accounts (usually)

I agree Liam, seems there isn't enough guests posting to keep it a non-login type of forum. I have no idea how much spam I deleted over the last 3 days... lol...

Yeah, I got tired of removing spam every time I've visted the last few days, so now I've gone and disabled Guest post [which was only on for the announcement forum anyway..]

He/she/they/it somehow managed to find their way to my wife and I's forum, probably via Binary Impiety, I can't say or sure. Same posting syntax and everything. Oy.
At least we have no qualms with disabling guest posting, it being a more private forum, and all. Heh.

i have yet to see them spam, except for the thread about the images. but what do these spams actualy involve? malicious code to hijack our computers and turn them into borg drones to destroy the world as we know it, replacing it with large throbbing penis's instead of beautiful perky boobs?
or just spam, spyware type stuff?
...im still delireus with the flu

Just link spam actually, trying to get higher page ranks.. Same goes with the user account spams, they create an account, give it a homepage that's a spam'd page in hopes of getting higher rankings..

 Re: Stupid Spammers
I am reluctant to ban someone without having seen the PMs in question. On the basis, however, that: - proflicius has not made any posts at all
- he has no apparent reason to be PM'ing members about Forum Administration
he has been banned.
