Post What linux distribution are you using?
let the war begin..

nah ^^, i just wanna know what linux distro you're using (and what for)
if you use e.g. a debian-based distro like knoppix, mepis .. vote for deb and mention the distro in your reply

i'm using debian (sarge) on a web/mail/... server and i'm also planning to use a (more bleeding-edge) distro for my laptop/desktop pc.

Now I get a a ubuntu CD free from here: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ don't know when I will try it.

I use ubuntu because my university mirrors the package repository, so I can update it or download new packages without using any internet bandwidth.

Actually it's not bad at all. Been using it for almost a month like this and don't really have any complaint except I have to save everything to my pocketdish usb device :D When I get bored I install a new game, it's great cause if the machine crashes and I lose everything, I really don't care :P

I had been dual booting XP MCE + ubuntu until my memory died, had a corrupt windows file, ran restore, it couldn't tell which partition from which, wiped itself off the hard drive, motherboard died, and HDD got wiped in the process. :wink: I also had all the *buntu's, DSL, Fedora, and a lot more distros running on my InnoTek. :D

But now...no more. :cry:

That seriously blows. On a happy note, I finally got the hard drive connector back for the laptop, so I should be getting it up and running within the next few days! YIPPY! Unfourtantely I think the guy gave me the wrong screws to mount the harddrive to the bay chassis with so now I have to find some screws that will actually work.. lame! So, halfway to a working ubuntu lappy!

Oh, and it needs a new battery.. The current one won't hold a charge as it sat unused for a year and a half... I can't win :P

Hey you're lucky to even have a lappy. :wink: My dad let me have his 10 year old compdata whatever-its-called windows 3.0 machine :D

Apart from the fact that there is no OS on it and that the memory is fried,...it turns on! :D and makes cool...beepy noises...and...stuff...

Using gentoo on my workstation and debian on my laptop. I used to run gentoo on my lappy, but compiling stuff on a laptop is like sitting with a bowl of magma in my lap. Who knows, perhaps I'd want some kids someday.
