I'm running Zenwalk on a very old PII 333 MHz with 192 MB of RAM. No speed demon, obviously, but good enough for browsing the interwebs, playing music.... The Exaile music player/jukebox that's included is quite nice. Your screenshot is neat, but honestly, I don't understand why people feel the need to use up a good portion of their screen for all kinds of meters. I prefer to have just some basic data on the panel, which is why I've set up my XFCE desktop to resemble Gnome. Hm Gnome. Attachment:

Speaking of which, Zen is also available as a Gnome edition. And regarding lightweight DEs, anybody here ever tried out LXDE? The default look is nothing spectacular, but it's supposed to be very easy on the resources. Comes with its own tabbed filemanager PCMan.

This Zenwalk sounds interesting. Used to be a slackware man myself.

Re: new guy here
haha, nice. and as far as the traffic goes, i've been telling everyone about this shell. i know a lot of people that have been looking for an alternate shell to vista. i personally had litestep back when i was using xp a few computers ago. my next build will probably dual boot (running the bb shell, of course) with zenwalk. and yeah, i noticed the linux traffic was relatively dead, that's why i felt a need to show up. when i have windows running again (solely for gaming purposes, i swear), hopefully i'll be able to offer more the new users with bb.

Nice desktop. And welcome to the forum. Truth be told, it's been rather slow lately.
Speaking of other shells, FVWM is looking good. Pixmap skinnable menus. Not sure of its resource friendliness.
I just destroyed a PIII 300MHz laptop. It was fun while it lasted...

new guy here
well, i personally am a linux user. since it's my first time here, i get to show off. currently running Zenwalk 6.0 (slackware derivative) utilizing Xfce rather than KDE or Gnome. Xfce is essentially a full-featured desktop, but with less system resources used, akin to fluxbox or icewm. i love it, personally. here is my current desktop; Code: root[adrian]# lshw grumpy
