Re: Linux equivalent of BBlean
I have been very happy with fluxbox and pypanel.

I am normally a KDE person, but for a minimal interface, those two have served me well, and then I mix-and-match Qt and GTK components to my liking. That's what I love about Linux.

If you don't mind learning something new you can try out FVWM. It's very lightweight and you can configure it in pretty much any way you want. Not exactly a plugin-system since you configure the whole window manager, but you can get results equal to the bblean plugins. I guess you could also try enlightenment DR17, it has support for plugins and I think it should be fairly easy to develop plugins for it. It's not marked as stable yet so you might run into some problems, but it's actively developed and the cvs has quite a few commits every day.

But yeah, the plugin system is something that bb4win developed. The *nix *boxes doesn't have anything like that.

That is what I was talking about. Also in BBlean the title can be painted by BBleanskin, but then I can call BBlean to paint the rest of the window. I'd like to see this feature also in *nix wms.

Hmm, I don't know if i understand you correctly, but „styles” under Linux are painted by windowmanager. So, as Open/Flux/Blackbox is windowmanager all windows will by styled as your main style. Plugins, as yours, are written then or as standalone applications, or plugins for panel (you can choose from many panels) or plugins for dock.

So, what is the closest wm for linux to bblean?

Openbox, i think. It has bbmenu at least.

Re: Linux equivalent of BBlean
Not very good piece of news... It is nice that all plugins look the same (painted with the same style)...
I've had a look at the original blackbox and it doesn't seem to have the ability to load plugins either. Maybe it's time to fork the original blackbox to another child. :)

Re: Linux equivalent of BBlean
I don't think there is anything; to my knowledge, Fluxbox and OpenBox are the only living children of the original BlackBox.
Which was last updated in 2005, according to the official site: http://blackboxwm.sourceforge.net/

Linux equivalent of BBlean
Hi guys,
I plan to switch to linux but I don't want to loose BBlean and especially the plugins (I want to rewrite my own plugins to linux). That's why I'm looking for some equivalent of BBlean in linux. I know that the original blackbox was for linux first. But now there are a lot of branches like fluxbox, openbox etc.
I played with fluxbox a little bit but it looks like there are no plugins - they are independent applications. Are there any plugins possible? Why do I ask? In bb4win you can call plugin's parent to paint your own window with the currently selected style. I think this is not possible without plugins. And there are other things like reading configuration etc.

So, what is the closest wm for linux to bblean?
